The Pros and the Cons of Condominiums on the Monterey Peninsula
Condoss and townhouses can offer a more affordable alternative to single family home in many areas. But you should consider the facts before buying a condo.
- Storage. Many condos have lockers for storage , but often here are no attics, no basements to store possessions.
- Outdoor space. A Yard and other outdoor space are often smaller in condominiums, so if you want to garden or entertain alot outdoors, this won't work as well for you.. Bu if you hate to mow the grass, then thismight just be the perfect solution for you.
- Amenities. Condos may have , workout centers, and other facilities that would not be affordable in a single family house.
- Maintenance. Many condominiums have onsite maintenance wokers to take care of common areas They may also do repair work in your unit, and handle letting workers in when you are gone.
- Security. Keyed entries, door attendants may be available. Also , you will be closer to others if there is an emergency. If you travel this also makes it easier..
- Aassociation dues and funds for reserves .Even if you do not use the pool or other amentities you still have to help pay for them. You also hae to hlep provide funds for any repairs needed in the future.
- Resale. Some units are pretty similar so whether you can sell your unit quickly will depend on what other units are for sale in your complex. Single family houses are usually more individual.
- Freedom. You get one vote, but the condo association rules can limit your rights to use your property. One example, some condominiums may prohibit businesses in the homes. Or they may set restrictions on pets. Read all the CC & r's (covenants, codes, restrictions, and bylaws of the condo complex carefully before you buy.
- Proximity. Neighbors are alot closeri n a condominium or town house. If possible, You might want to meet your closest future neighbors before you make a decision to purchase.
